What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is the oldest problem-solving and healing tradition in human history.

For at least 40,000 years, shamans have been mediating between the world of humans and the world of spirits. On their journeys to other realities, shamans mobilize power and knowledge for the benefit of their community.

Training in Core Shamanism

Core Shamanism consists of transculturally observable or universal principles and techniques.

Core Shamanism is based on the explicit recognition of the reality of spirits and the existence of two realities, ordinary and non-ordinary. The latter is entered by altering one’s state of consciousness; there, direct contact with spirits becomes fully possible. As a first experiential step, the Basic Workshop enables participants to establish relations with their own spiritual allies.

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies Europe serves the community. It is dedicated to the preservation, study and teaching of shamanic knowledge – for 35 years already. In countless workshops, tens of thousands of people have been able to establish first-hand contact to their personal spiritual helpers.

Basic Workshops

Proven formats of introductory workshops in which participants gain access to shamanic journeys and other divinatory and healing techniques. The goal is to establish contact with one's own spiritual helpers and thus have authentic spiritual experiences. These workshops lay the foundation for the core shamanic training.

The advanced workshops are each dedicated to a selected focus topic, into which the participants are initiated step by step. Each of these workshops is part of the shamanic training and serves to intensify the relationship with one's own spiritual allies.

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies' Long Term Training Programmes, unique in the world, introduce rarely demonstrated shamanic techniques. Participants undergo intensive, personal initiations over an extended period of time.

Community Meetings

With the Core Shamanic Online Community Meetings, we want to address the need for community, to exchange ideas and to practice shamanism together.

The meetings are organised both internationally and with a regional focus. No prerequisites are necessary. Participation is free of charge.

Days of Practice

Days of Practice – usually with a duration of half a day up to a whole weekend – are dedicated to intensive shamanic practice. The focus is on applying what has been learned in the workshops.

The formats range from experimental and research design to classical divinatory or healing sessions for clients.

Conferences & Events

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies Europe addresses the urgent questions of our time and tries to contribute concrete solutions.

Every second year we organize international conferences on relevant topics – e.g. “Shamanism and Science”, “Shamanism and Ecology” or “Shamanism and Digitalisation”. Additionally, we implement online events twice a year.

Harner Shamanic Counseling™

Harner Shamanic Counseling (HSC)™ is a counseling approach based on the principles of classical shamanism. The aim is to enable clients to facilitate the technique of the shamanic journey for themselves in a safe and effective manner. By doing this, clients establish first-hand contact to their spiritual allies and are consequently able to find answers to important questions on their own. This represents a major step in spiritual development, leading to real empowerment.
